John Hammond was born circa 1710 at probably Kittery, York Co, Maine.1 He was the son of Benjamin Hammond and Sarah Eastman. John Hammond married Patience Webber, daughter of John Webber and Magdalene Hilton, on 28 December 1732 at No. Yarmouth, Cumberland Co, Maine; John Hammond was a resident of Noorth Yarmouth when married there.1 John Hammond died on 14 October 1758 at N. Yarmouth, Cumberland Co, Maine; We know he died before 1762. The Hammond family history indicates he may have died in the army 14 Oct 1758. Birth records list daughter Rhoda was b. 12 Oct 1759, which does not fit.1
Many researchers believe he was the son of Benjamin Hammon of Kittery, Maine, and since there was a Benjmain living near him I will assume the same. No birth record has been located as yet.2 The First Parish Church of North Yarmouth show that John "Hammon" was admitted to that church on 31 October 1742, and was removed by death about 1762.
John Hammond enlisted in Capt. Samuel Cobb's Co, Col. Jedediah Preble's Regiment as a private from North Yarmouth on 10 Apr 1758 and served until his death which is said to have occurred 14 Oct 1758. He was credited with 6 months 20 days' service on a muster roll dated 13 Jan 1759.1,3,2
