Allen William Bullis

     Allen William Bullis was born circa 1830 at Quebec.1 He married Matilda Prudence Scott, daughter of William Scott and Prudence Covey, on 1 February 1849 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont.2 Allen William Bullis died on 18 June 1873 at Newport Center, Orleans Co, Vermont;

"We learn from the Newport Express that Allen Bullis was instantly killed last Wednesday afternoon. He was peeling hemlock bark in the woods and had just felled a tree, when he called to his son (15 years old) to look out for himself. The tree struck a dry maple stub about 8 inches in diameter, which flew back with great force and struck him in the head just over the left eye, smashing his head in a dreadful manner. Mr. Bullis was a hard working, industrious man. He leaves a wife and 11 children to mourn his sad loss."3
     He appeared on the census of 1851 at Stanbridge, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; Allen Bullis, 23, Matilda, 24 and Chester, 3.4 He appeared on the census of 27 June 1870 at Newport, Orleans Co, Vermont; Allen Bullis, 40, Matilda, 41, Chester, 20, Harriet, 18, William, 16, Robert, 14, Edwin, 12, Alvira, 9 Emma, 7, Oscar, 5, Anna, 3 and Amelia, 5 mos.1
