Zachariah Smith was born on 30 September 1716 at Watertown, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts. He was the son of Zachariah Smith and Susanna Grout. Zachariah Smith married Lydia Hastings, daughter of Joseph Hastings and Lydia Brown, on 19 October 1738.1 Zachariah Smith died on 28 January 1793 at Shrewsbury, Worcester Co, Massachusetts, at age 76.2 He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.
His estate was probated on 2 April 1793 at Worcester Co, 3Massachusetts.3
He was listed in the military He was in the 15th Battalion in Leicester, Massachusetts. He served as a private in Capt Abraham Pierce's company, Col. Eleazer Brooks, regiment of guards. on 20 April 1778.4 He left a will on 7 March 1792 at Worcester Co, Massachusetts; Zachariah left Lydia, his "beloved wife for her right of dower in my estate one hundred weight of pork" 80 pounds of beef, five bushels of indian corn, four bushels of rye, one bushel of wheat, 20 pounds of butter 50 of cheese, half a bushel of malt 20 pounds of "shugar", a gallon of rum, 30 barrels of "cyder", and more...including all furniture.
His children were all left inheritances. Named were "eldest son" Joshua, dau Lydia Smith, dau Molly Hemenway, son Uriah, son Jonas, Phineas, dau Patty Bruce, sons Lewis and Samuel, who was also named his executor.3
