Anna Susannah Mitchell married Samuel Covey; A newspaper article in 1817 mentions that they had been cohabiting for some years so it is likely they were not married.1 Anna Susannah Mitchell died on 2 August 1821 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont.2 She was buried on 3 August 1821.
It is certainly most likely that Susanna was younger than Samuel and was his 2nd wife. It is virtually impossible for her to be the mother of Sam Jr, born c1772 and Alfred born in 1815 - she'd be at least 60 years old for Alfred's birth, and would have had at least 19 children. The problem is, there is no real "break" between children to be able to pinpoint her arrival. I suspect the cutoff is Mary and Susanna was the first born by his second wife/consort.
This writer doesn't know if Samuel is referring to her 1st marriage name of Mitchell or her maiden name from the newspaper article.
Until we can get a document that at least verifies is first wife, I am leaving Susanna as the only wife, --- but it is most likely his first wife was a Yearns/Yarnes and this was a 2nd wife.3
On 10 Jun 1817, the newpaper published a notice:
Whereas Anner Susannah Mitchel with whome I have for a number of years cohabited with, and her children have by the insolent and ungrateful conduct, entirely weaned my affections from them. This is therefore, to forbid all persons harboring or trusting either of them on my account , as I shall pay no debts of their contracting after this date.
